For Sookie

Before he left the office last night, the Master left me a handwritten note to post here for Sookie.  Here it is.

Dear One - I had purchased quite a different gift for you, but I have since realized that my intent was more to secure you for myself than anything else.  Please accept this small gift, a reminder to any vampire who would seek to possess you.  Yours, -E.

And this is the gift I'm supposed to mail with the note. Um... silver?

Weird...

The Master left this book on the desk and told me to post the highlighted lines.  So here they are.

When her lover turned and looked at her, and his eye met hers as she sat there, paler and whiter than any one in the vast ocean of anxious faces about her, he saw, by that power of quick perception which is given to those whose souls are one, that she knew behind which door crouched the tiger, and behind which stood the lady. He had expected her to know it. He understood her nature, and his soul was assured that she would never rest until she had made plain to herself this thing, hidden to all other lookers-on, even to the king. The only hope for the youth in which there was any element of certainty was based upon the success of the princess in discovering this mystery; and the moment he looked upon her, he saw she had succeeded, as in his soul he knew she would succeed.
Then it was that his quick and anxious glance asked the question: "Which?" It was as plain to her as if he shouted it from where he stood. There was not an instant to be lost. The question was asked in a flash; it must be answered in another.
Her right arm lay on the cushioned parapet before her. She raised her hand, and made a slight, quick movement toward the right. No one but her lover saw her. Every eye but his was fixed on the man in the arena.
He turned, and with a firm and rapid step he walked across the empty space. Every heart stopped beating, every breath was held, every eye was fixed immovably upon that man. Without the slightest hesitation, he went to the door on the right, and opened it.

The story is called "The Lady or the Tiger?" by Frank Stockton, and I found it online in case anyone wants to read it.  I really liked it, but I still can't figure out why I was supposed to post that passage.  Oh well.

Why I am in Vegas

Tonight's meetings are already over.  Mercifully.  I hate meetings.

And at last I was told the real reason for my presence here.  I had thought it was regarding the vials that the weres and Fellowship were after, but no.  Felipe wants me to move here, to become the Sheriff of Nevada Area 3, which includes his capital of Las Vegas.

I told him no thanks, and thus I am on my way home this evening.  Catching a flight in two hours.

Vegas

My departure tonight was sudden, but it was as much a surprise to me as it was to all of you.  Felipe summoned me with no notice and I caught a last-minute flight to his nest in Las Vegas.  Our meetings are regarding the vials that the weres and/or the Fellowship of the Sun are after.  Beyond that I can say no more.

I may have time to use Twitter as I normally do in the evenings, but if I don't appear, don't assume that I'm kidnapped, being tortured, or otherwise incapacitated.  My absence probably signifies nothing more than the fact that I am bored in a meeting.

No one should worry about me.  I don't yet know how long I will be required here, but I am perfectly safe and well.

Bonding

What most don't know or understand about blood-bonding is that, in the case of a vampire and a human, it is not one way.  The human doesn't simply gain vampiric traits such as heightened senses.  The vampire also takes on some qualities of the human.  In other words, blood-bonding makes a vampire more human than he or she was.

Apart from the obvious ability of the vampire's enemies to use the bond against him, it is this - the acquiring of more human qualities - that makes the bond so dangerous to a vampire.

I would have it no other way.

I regret to say...

...that love really does turn a man into a worthless piece of mush, whether he is twenty-two or a thousand.  All I think about lately is seeing Sookie, being with Sookie, talking to Sookie, and having sex with Sookie.  Well, that last thing is something I have been occupied with for the past two years.  ;-)

I am sure that the level of happiness I feel is inversely proportional to the level of boredom and disgust that happiness inspires in others who are forced to read about it.

Fuck them.

My gift to Sookie

This is what I will be giving to Sookie tonight as a Valentine's gift.  It is easier to explain here, at length, than in short Twitter postings.  I contacted some witches I know in Chicago, witches who are highly gifted at potions.  They provided me with a tonic that can destroy the blood bond.

I am giving this to Sookie not because I want our bond to be broken - quite the opposite - but because I want her to have the choice she was never given.  I feel that this is the greatest gift I could give her.

And there's a pair of diamond and sapphire earrings, since a vial of witch potion isn't very romantic.  ;-)

A happy Valentine's Day to all.

Valentine's Day

This is a holiday I have never celebrated with anyone.  I don't mean this in a maudlin way, but I have never had someone with whom to celebrate it.  I never cared about anyone enough to do so.  This year will be different.  Perhaps I should resent being put in the position of a pimply human teenage boy, but I find that I am anticipating the night with great pleasure and trepidation.

I must decide on a gift....
